Last week, the company published the Blizzcon 2019 schedule that contained teasers of what could be nearly four hours of surprises, but with no indication of what they could be. Blizzcon 2019 is rapidly approaching and a flood of reputable leaks has washed over the internet revealing an absolutely stacked agenda of new titles set to be debuted at Blizzard Entertainment’s annual gaming expo, including the long-awaited Diablo 4 and the highly anticipated Overwatch 2. Activision itself has turned pretty much every non-Blizzard studio into a Call of Duty team, the series that continues printing an indefinite, ungodly amount of money for them, and the same goes for King, their acquired mobile arm.
The future of Blizzard remains unclear with so many core figures leaving and Activison’s demands for new releases and monetization. Diablo 4, meanwhile, is a more traditional sequel in every sense of the word, and if it emulates Diablo 3’s sales, should be a smash hit. It remains to be seen what the extent of Overwatch 2’s PvE offerings are, supposedly the most major addition to the sequel, but for PvP, new maps, slimming down to 5v5 and some hero reworks really don’t scream “sequel” to me. Overwatch 2 recently had its first PvP development stream and it’s hard not to feel like this is an instance of an addition to a game which may have been a large patch or a traditional expansion for another series, but here, Activision very much wants something to put a “2” on and to be able to sell additional copies. But that’s far from a guarantee.ĭiablo 4 seems like more of a sure thing compared to Overwatch 2. Blizzard expects it to be huge in Asia where both Diablo and mobile games are very popular, though as someone who loves Diablo and has played Immortal, despite my initial skepticism, I am impressed. One intermittent bright spot before all that could be Diablo Immortal, the mobile variant of the series that seems somewhat akin to a mobile version of Diablo 3.5.
